I started my job as a student worker at the school library over a month ago. It has been the easiest job I have ever done. It’s always quiet and peaceful there. I have come to realize that the silence is not always a good thing though. It leaves the door wide open for lots of unpleasant noises and conversations. So I decided to give a couple of hints for people interested in a job at a library or just for general patron knowledge.
- Please put your cell phone and electrical devices on silent. No one wants to hear conversations about private matters. Please spare us!
- Do not bring in smelly food! I understand that its lunch time and you have to cram for a test while you inhale your meal, but don’t stink up the close quarters of the whole building. No McD’s, chinese, pizza, or anything with garlic & onions allowed.
- Keep your voices down. This is the first rule you learn about libraries people, it should not have to be repeated! The age of everyone knowing your business has spilled over from Facebook into the solitude of the library.
- Lastly, don’t argue with the library assistant. I am sorry but if you didn’t return a book you will have a late fee, that is the rules.
*Please remember I am just an assistant.*
